Run, Steve, Run!

43,790 steps, 42,195 Metres, or 26.2 Miles: The Mindset RemainsMental health and mindset matters to 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist and November 5, 2023 New York Marathon runner, Steve Mesler's mission to help more athletes like him mentor more kids.

Why the Marathon

My claim to athletic fame boils down to having been the best in the world at running for five seconds and sitting for a minute. As a bobsledder, that’s what I did. I led Team USA’s 4-man bobsledteam to break a 62-year Olympic Gold Medal drought for my home country at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. If there’s a polar opposite sport to the 26.2 miles of a marathon, bobsled would have to it.I'm running this marathon for more reasons than just a physical feat. At Classroom Champions, we teach kids Goal Setting to span anything they feel they need to accomplish in life. Whether they’re looking to read more, improve their math skills, or make a varsity team: There are frameworks in place to help them through the ups and downs of chasing dreams. I wish I had those resources as a groundwork when I was training for The Games. Now I do. I am doing this Marathon, yes, to push my body and mind. But I also hope to raise awareness for the types of support we ALL need to go through life. Because life is full of stress, training, goals, and recovery, and there are ways we can all work together to help our future leaders of all kinds thrive.

Choices, mental health, depression, family, friends… My ‘couch-to-marathon’ story might be a bit different than others, but it's exactly why I’m running the NYC Marathon. Join me on my journey
If you’re like me, you may have a couch in your life that you’ve been sitting on a little too long… choose to get up off it.
I had never run more than five miles in one effort in my entire life before this past April at the ripe age of 44.
