We know that this is an anxiety-filled time for teachers, students, parents, and athletes. The world is uncertain and stressful. It’s going to cause a lot of anxiety and trauma for the 60 million kids who won’t be in school for months on end across the U.S. and Canada. Many of these kids depend on their school for a safe and stable place to be during the day.
Our non-profit mission for the last 10 years at Classroom Champions has been to authentically connect kids to incredible athletes, support teachers and engage parents. We’ve seen over a million students learn from hundreds of Olympians, Paralympians, Pro Athletes, and NCAA Student-Athletes who’ve helped improve student social and emotional learning through virtual connection, curriculum, and inspiration.
That doesn’t stop with coronavirus, but it does change.
Today, myself and Christian Taylor, Olympic gold medalist and Classroom Champions mentor and Board Member -- on behalf of the hundreds of athletes who volunteer as mentors -- have decided we’re going to do better and we’re going to do more.
That means we are:
2. Sharing a Parent Toolkit for teachers to send to families with activities and videos. This toolkit includes lessons and videos for parents to use. Find it here.
4. Hosting Classroom Champions LIVE every day with Olympic and Paralympic athlete mentors. Starting next Monday, March 23, tune in with your kids at 12pm ET / 9am PT on our Facebook page to watch a different lesson or check our Youtube page for past videos. These will include workouts and movement exercises, read alongs, social and emotional learning lessons, mindful minutes, activities like cooking shows, and more all led by inspiring athlete mentors. Remind yourself with this google calendar here.
More resources are coming soon and we will continue to update you here!
We want to support teachers, parents, and students in any way we can, so keep sharing what we can do to help on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or by email.
Together we can continue providing kids the skills they need, now more than ever.
