Joining the Classroom Champions team in 2015, small town Albertan, Kate, came to Classroom Champions from the classroom and is beyond thrilled to combine her love of education and non-profit work.
Holding a Bachelor of Elementary Education with a Minor in Special Education from the University of Alberta, Kate is a Loran Scholar who also granted wishes as a Wish Coordinator for Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta while studying. She always knew she wanted to be a teacher and jumped right into teaching a first grade class. Working with special needs children is her passion and she continually took on new challenges, including being one of the first 25 Classroom Champion teachers across Canada.
Kate shares a vision with Classroom Champions in teaching students “how better gets better and better” and enjoys supporting teachers to help them create a classroom culture that nourishes the seed of learning. She is excited to continue her work with the Circle program, which pairs mentors with students who share an Indigenous heritage and connects the Classroom Champions themes to the Seven Sacred teachings.
Most recently, Kate has embarked on the journey of parenthood with her husband and the two of them love to travel with their toddler and two dogs. In the summer, you can usually find the whole family out on the lake or cheering on their favourite hockey team in the winter.
