Our entire team is fully remote from living rooms across North America. Even once the world opens back up, our staff will have the flexibility to be wherever, whenever (as long as you've got wifi).

Our mission is to empower children to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically through the mentorship and mindsets of world-class athletes. Students participating in Classroom Champions demonstrate substantial growth in and out of the classroom. This includes research demonstrating improvements in attendance, grades, behavior, perseverance, goal setting ability, and more. In addition to student growth, teachers feel more engaged in their work and athlete mentors learn new skills to prepare for life after sport.

Classroom Champions is a nonprofit organization that partners with schools and after-school programs to connect students with world-class athlete mentors to teach critical emotional intelligence skills. Classroom Champions supports students’ academic and social and emotional well-being, working with teachers and families to encourage children to achieve successful futures. This is all done through free online programs and resources, social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum, and virtual mentorship programs. Focusing philanthropic efforts predominantly within underserved, urban, rural and Indigenous communities, Classroom Champions has grown exponentially. The nonprofit has reached 5,000,000 students across the U.S., Canada, American military bases abroad, and over 30 other countries in 2021 through curricular and mentorship programs, online events, and content and mission partnerships. The organization also has worked with 250+ Olympic, Paralympic, NCAA student-athletes, and professional (NFL, NHL) athletes who volunteer as mentors.

Founded in 2010 in the US by Olympic Champion Steve Mesler and education researcher/teacher Dr. Leigh Mesler Parise, Classroom Champions is dedicated to raising the next generation of driven, empathetic, and emotionally-intelligent leaders. We want to bring your experience as a leader in your field to our community. The global pandemic and its disproportionate effect on many of the communities and schools that were already facing the greatest challenges makes the work of Classroom Champions more important than ever. Classroom Champions is looking to add several new board Directors who strongly believe in the mission and vision of Classroom Champions. Potential Directors will be interested in partnering with the Olympic gold medalists, CEOs and business leaders, entrepreneurs, and education thought-leaders comprising the existing board to augment our new campaign to have 1,000,000 students learning in our programs on a weekly basis by 2025.

Working closely with the CEO and fellow volunteer Directors you will support fundraising efforts, advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, assist with the leadership, sales and expansion opportunities, utilize existing personal connections and take on assignments as needed. We are especially interested in board members with experience in the communities we serve. The full board meets quarterly, with at least one in-person meeting a year, and board committees meet approximately quarterly. Board member terms are three years, typically with the opportunity to serve two terms.

Classroom Champions is looking to bring on volunteer Directors who are collaborative, forward-thinking and innovative in their approach to their respective profession, and have an inquisitive passion to always learn. We are seeking candidates who have experience in one or more of the following areas:

Fundraising and Sponsorship. Expertise in this area includes the ability to both give and get needed philanthropic, corporate, and foundation financial support as well as experience, passion and a network in these areas.

Social and Emotional Well-Being. Expertise in this area could include experience working with and/or studying social and emotional programming or child development, and how schools and communities can support the development of the whole child.

Scaling Innovative Organizations. Expertise in this area could include those who are leading or have led companies or products & sales that have scaled to reach a substantial number of users over a relatively short period of time.

Educational Leadership. Expertise in this area could include those with current or recent experience in school and/or educational system leadership, especially with recognized accomplishments in educational innovations or policies and/or deep connections in North American educational systems.

Sports Leadership. Expertise in this area could include those with experience as Paralympic, Olympic, or professional athletes who have used their experience as a platform to advance causes of interest.

Nonprofit Leadership. Expertise in this area could include those who are or have played leadership roles at nationally recognized nonprofit organizations, including experience with operations and governance, fundraising and development strategy, and galvanizing broad support for the organization’s work and mission.
