Austin was born with hereditary spastic paraplegia and began wheelchair racing at the age of seven. He made his debut on the international stage in 2013, representing Canada at the IPC World Championships. Since then, he has been a finalist at three consecutive Paralympic Games and five World Championships.In 2022, Austin relocated to Victoria, British Columbia, where he elevated his training to a new level. Since the move, he has broken two world records a total of four times, won multiple medals at World Championships, and became a double medalist and Paralympic champion at the Paris 2024 Games.
